Director of Intake Design & Training of Financial Planners

Calling all social innovators and people passionate about changing the world – starting in our own community!

Position Description
Community Ladders, a social business providing middle- and low-income Americans with consumer protection and financial planning services, seeks an experienced personal financial planner to reevaluate, streamline, and better design our personal financial planning strategies. The ability of Community Ladders to scale up and improve more people’s lives is dependent on our ability to effectively train individuals in holistic financial planning. The Director of Design and Training will join us in refining our client intake guide and designing a training curriculum for financial planners. The Director will join us in thinking critically about quality control.

As a member of the core, all-volunteer team of this social start-up, the Director will be integral to the success of the organization, and an enabler of growth. This promises to be a rewarding opportunity to help jump-start a business that directly impacts and improves people’s lives.

Qualifications

  • Experience in personal financial planning.
  • A strong belief that social change by a social business is possible, even in a field so heavily dominated by for-profit public companies.
  • An open mind, a sense of possibility, and a commitment to social justice.

The Fellow will also determine the best hosting platform for supporting the new website. While our existing website gives an indication of the kinds of content we’ll have in the new site, the Wed Designer should not feel constrained by our existing design (that is to say, iWeb’s pre-packaged design). Our goal is to get a dynamic website up quickly, but one which can evolve regularly and can incorporate dynamic content such as blogs and event logs.

To apply: submit your resume and a brief statement of your interest tojobs@comlad.com.

To learn more: check out our work-in-progress website, www.comlad.com, for more information. Also, feel free to call (240-863-1813) or e-mail (jobs@comlad.com) us; we’re always enthusiastic about explaining our model and sharing our vision.

NOTE: As a start-up running on conviction, we cannot offer compensation to anyone at this point. But we make up for it by being extremely flexible in both when and how much you work. We are looking for passionate and capable people, and we realize that these people are generally pretty busy. Our hope is that a Fellow in this position would devote an appropriate number of hours per week, as circumstances allow. We offer all of our services to Fellows for free (including doing your taxes), and can write rockin’ letters of recommendation. But, we think the greatest reward is being in on the ground floor of something great.

Information Technology Strategist

Calling all social innovators and people passionate about changing the world – starting in our own community!

Position Description

Community Ladders, a social business providing middle- and low-income Americans with consumer protection and financial planning services, seeks an Information Technology Strategist to aid in the planning, budgeting, and design of its information technology. We are currently in the first phase of a three-phase rollout, with each phase requiring ever more sophisticated technology. The first and second phases include a new website with increasing levels of sophistication and interactivity. Ultimately we intend to have a website similar to Mint.com, but linked with client financial planning services, customer management, conferencing, and financial services systems. A key part of the IT Strategist’s role is to estimate (at least ballpark) the costs of creating this kind of integrated IT system. Note that more than one candidate may be selected for the position depending on the range of expertise needed for the project.

As a member of the core, all-volunteer team of this social start-up, the IT Strategist will be integral to the success of the organization. This promises to be a rewarding opportunity to help jump-start a business that directly impacts and improves people’s lives.

Qualifications

  • Ability to estimate the costs of an integrated IT project, including costing subcomponents and add-on services.
  • Ability to conceive of integrated IT systems that span different business components (e.g. web, client management, database, and call center operations).

To apply: submit your resume and a brief statement of your interest tojobs@comlad.com.

But we make up for it by being extremely flexible in both when and how much you work. We are looking for passionate and capable people, and we realize that these people are generally pretty busy. Our hope is that a Fellow in this position would devote an appropriate number of hours per week, as circumstances allow. Multimedia Presentation/Pitch Video Creator & Editor

Calling all social innovators and people passionate about changing the world – starting in our own community!

Position Description

Community Ladders, a social business providing middle- and low-income Americans with consumer protection and financial planning services, seeks a pitch video designer and editor who can create and edit a short video. We are offering a service that is completely new – very affordable financial planning services within an organization devoted to consumer protection. It’s difficult to convey our concept through text alone (see our website as a case in point).

We need to make a mixed-media pitch video that we hope will combine interview-style video clips with animated/drawn segments to help explain our story, mission, and service offerings. We have a graphic designer who has volunteered his talents in assisting with the sketches if needed, but the video designer will have the creative lead.

We want the video to be editable for different purposes in the future. There would be two versions to start with – one for our website to educate people about us, and a second for an upcoming social business plan competitions.

As a member our all-volunteer team in this social start-up, the video designer will be integral to successfully conveying how we can help people. This promises to be a rewarding opportunity to help jump-start a business that directly impacts and improves people’s lives.

Qualifications

  • Experience in creating a video presentation/clip: Ability to plan, create and edit. A strong sense of style and creativity are welcome.
  • Must own or have access to editing software.
  • A strong belief that social change by a social business is possible, even in a field so heavily dominated by for-profit public companies.
  • An open mind, a sense of possibility, and a commitment to social justice.

We are looking for passionate and capable people, and we realize that these people are generally pretty busy. Nonetheless, our hope is that the designer would be able to devote an appropriate amount of time to complete the project in about a month. We can offer all of our services to Fellows for free (including doing your taxes), and can write rockin’ letters of recommendation if you are between professional positions. But, we think the greatest reward is being in on the ground floor of something great.
